What you need to know...
  • Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design
  • LEED certification provides independent. third party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures.
  • There are both environmental and financial benefits to earning LEED Certification.
  • Handling the waste stream of a project correctly is a significant part of achieving higher LEED certifications.
Managing your program
  • Designate a leader. either an individual or a team, who will be responsible for educating the crew and subcontractors, setting up the site, cordinating and supervising recycling efforts ro prevent contamination of recycling loads.
  • Communicate your plan to the crew and subcontractors on site. They will ened to know how the materials should be seperated and where to put the materials.
  • Require subconstractors to us the on-site recycling and disposal bins or require them to recycle their own waste and provide documentation.
  • Clearly label the recycling bins and waste containers on site. Benchmark Recycling can provide some of the signs for your convenience.
  • Post list of recyclable and non-recyclable materials.
  • Conduct regular site visits to verify that bins are not contaminated. If contamination occurs, assign someone to remove the unacceptable items prior to the emptying of the container. It will be much more cost effective for you to do while the box is on site.
